In this lesson, you will learn to:

  • Apply a repeatable method for integrate scanners, apis, reporting, and multi-cloud sources in a licensed, governed, and testable Purview environment.

Integrate Scanners, APIs, Reporting, and Multi-Cloud Sources

This lesson develops a practical understanding of integrate scanners, apis, reporting, and multi-cloud sources and connects design choices to supported capabilities, operational dependencies, user impact, and verifiable evidence.

Integration expands visibility only when the pipeline is trustworthy

Purview integrations can register and scan data sources, import metadata, expose APIs, export insights, and connect reporting workflows. Each integration needs a purpose, source owner, identity, network route, schema, refresh expectation, capacity assumption, error handling, and reconciliation method.

For on-premises repositories, validate scanner service identities, local permissions, database access, connectivity, supported formats, schedules, and health. A service account that can start a scan may still lack access to representative content. Use the scanner health warning guide for systematic checks.

For APIs, page large collections, exclude unnecessary relationship expansion, bound concurrency, and make writes idempotent. Store checkpoints and reconcile ambiguous timeouts. Integration reliability is part of governance because stale or duplicated metadata changes decisions.

Reporting must preserve definitions and denominators

A dashboard is a model built from selected sources, time windows, filters, and refresh jobs. Define every metric: what counts as an asset, labeled item, DLP event, override, stale scan, governed product, or high-risk AI interaction. Show the eligible population and telemetry health beside the result.

When exporting Data Estate Insights or other Purview data to Power BI, record supported export mechanisms, API boundaries, pagination, transformation logic, refresh identity, schema changes, and reconciliation totals. The Purview reporting and Power BI guide explains the controlled pattern.

Separate Data Map metadata from Microsoft 365 enforcement telemetry. A classification count in Data Map does not prove a DLP policy protected the asset. Build a relationship between governance coverage, control coverage, outcomes, and evidence without merging unlike denominators.
