If you suspect an email or message is a phishing attempt, do not click on any links or download any attachments. Report the message to your IT department or email provider.

If you’ve accidentally provided personal information in response to a phishing email, change your passwords immediately. If you’ve provided financial information, contact your bank or credit card company to report the incident. Additionally, monitor your accounts for any suspicious activity.

Opening a phishing email itself is generally safe, but clicking on links, downloading attachments, or replying with personal information is risky. If you’ve opened a phishing email, do not interact with it further and report it as mentioned above.

Genuine emails usually address you by name, contain few, if any, spelling mistakes, and do not solicit sensitive information via email. Always verify the sender’s email address and look for inconsistencies in the message. When in doubt, contact the supposed sender directly using a trusted method, not by replying to the suspicious email.
